Hot Wheels has a awesome new lineup this year and of course the highlight (besides the Manga series with all its Japanese weirdness) is the release of the E30 M3! Keep your eyes out of the white lipped variation for sure! Read the review over at the excellent Matchbox site the Lamley Group

e30 Touring - A BMW Engineer and his Family

The guys over at the excellent RanWhenParked.net walk us through the birth of the E30 Touring. I have owned a 2 & 4 door E30 and they both are easily the best daily driving car ever built by the Germans. How can you make the best even better? What if you took that classic Hofmeister kink and just moved it back a foot or two? Well that is exactly what Max Reisböck did.

Chris Harris on Cars - E28 M5

the truth is, my car isnt what you would call a minter.. its a bit scruffy around the edges.. these towing eye covers missing at the front.. and at some point during the shoot it jettisoned a wheel center.. the rear bumper rubber needs some sticking, and theres plenty of wear and tear inside.. but i like it that way.. its honest.. it wears its 26 years with real pride.

Beater Bimmers - The German HotRod

There is something about a beat up Bimmer, it looks right. Bimmers that are perfect, fashionistas for sure. Bimmers that are rusty, dented, chipped, tired and haggard, those are Bimmers that are happy Bimmers. Bimmer are meant to be driven and driven hard down that bumpy rough road, delivering miles of smiles to their owners. Dare I say that Bimmers are the German version of a HotRod? Just like HotRods, they dont look right with blingy shiny chrome and paint, perfect interiors and poser owners standing next to them.

My car must have a soul

Well finally! No longer do I have to try and explain why I drive old Bimmers with metal bumpers. No more talking about how tuning the valves every 6 months is a way to connect with my Bimmer. No more blank stares as I wax poetically about the connection I have with my old Bimmer that has driven 330,000 miles on this earth. The next time anyone asks why I dont buy one of those really awesome new BMWs with flappy paddles, iDrive and more computing power than my iPhone 2g, Ill have an answer that requires no talking.

The lil Bimmer that saved the company

This Bimmer is simply not talked about enough in my opinion. The 700 single-handedly saved BMW from certain doom in the early 60s. It has an amazing racing history having both the old and the new generation of great racing drivers pilot it around Europe’s fiercest tracks. At age 60 Hans Stuck Sr clinched the 1960 German Hill Climb Championship in a 700. One of the new generation of race drivers then took his turn in a 700 with none other than Jacky Ickx making his competition debut in a BMW 700 at Course de Côte de la Roche.

The very Best Bimmer vs the very Worst Merc

Imagine a concert that pairs up two great singing talents. Lets say you have Sade and Susan Boyle both belting out the national anthem for the SuperBowl. Close your eyes and you will hear two beautiful voices singing together in harmony. Your thinking, this is very pleasant. Then you open your eyes which quickly focus in on Sade and her smooth stance, beautiful face and sexy slender body. Then your poor eyes glance, only for a moment as they simply cannot stand to focus any longer, at the hideous sight of Susan Boyle.

BMW E30 M3 and the M1

The E30 is the greatest daily drivable sports car ever produced. Yes this opinion is heavily opinionated, your on a pre 92 BMW blog so why would you expect less. Here is a quick clip from BMW.tv about the E30 M3 and its inception as a sellable replacement to the mighty M1. Pretty lofty goals I would say.

Sabine Schmitz Will you marry me?

Yes this post does not feature, show, mention, hint or even think about a BMW that was MadeInWestGermany. It is about someone from West Germany though, and this someone is not only very special to the motorsports world but she is the wife of this websites creator, unbeknownst to her. The marriage part she wont know about until I pay my 185 Euros, ride in her ‘ring taxi and get the courage to pop the question using a blue and white ring fashioned out of M12 turbo bearings.

A Czech built race car powered by a BMW motorcycle engine

This is an interesting creature indeed. Avia is a Czech aircraft and automobile company founded in 1919. Although they mostly built airplanes and trucks they did manage to make a very cool race car. It follows the Colin Chapman theory of “Simplify and add lightness” by basically frosting the minimal frame with thin aluminum. Very Birdcage Maserati I must say. Get over to the excellent writeup by the guys at the hooniverse and enjoy the interesting history lesson.

Hemmings Six Degrees tackles BMW

Hemmings is one of my favorite auto magazines. Its for the same reason Top Gear is so perfect a car show. They get “it”! What is “it”? “It” is that understanding among car enthusiasts that you are one of the club, not some phony who doesn’t know his Dino from his Ferrari. The drivable dream feature is always the first thing I flip to when a new Hemmings comes in the mail.

BMW admits the best Bimmers are West German

This is one of my favorite ‘new’ BMW commercials. Ill admit it gives me goosebumps every time I watch it. But lets look past the goosebumps for a moment. Notice how all the best scenes are showing West German born Bimmers? Is BMW trying to tell us something subliminal? The mighty E30 doing donuts on autopilot, Molly Ringwald getting fresh in front of another E30 (at 14 I would have taken the Bimmer, sorry Molly), a line of proud West Germans with their hoods flipped up and forward (cant do that on a new Bimmer can ya!

2800CS races a LearJet and wins

Ok maybe it does not win the drag race flat out, but it wins for sure on looks alone! I have always loved the sexy lines of the E9 with its forward nose as if it was a sprinter leaning into the finish line and its perfectly proportioned roof slowly falling into the short simple butt. A truly classic design even without all the fancy wings of the iconic “batmobile”
